These are extracts I typed up from the book 'The Bill; The official history of Sun Hill' by Geoff Tibballs and it was released in 2003.
p.43
Interview with Simon Rouse.
And what about Meadows and Webb, the Batman and Robin of Sun Hill?
Yes, working with Chris Simmons was great too. That's been one of the pleasures of The Bill – it attracts so many fine actors.
p.79
Chandler's roving eye had alighted on Kate Spears who was having an on/off relationship with fellow DC Mickey Webb.
p.83
...Collins set out to silence Rawton but was overpowered by a blow to the head from Spears and forced to assist in the hunt for Ferdinand. The latter proved an elusive and deadly quarry, managing to kill Collins and kidnap Webb, Rawton and Spears. With Webb in the boot and a knife pressed to Rawton's side, Spears was ordered to drive.
p.93
...as Conway left the community centre in a panda car, a motorcyclist roared up and the pillion passanger threw a lit petrol bomb through the window of Conway's car. Webb, who had also been at the meeting, could only look on helplessly as the vehicle exploded in a ball of flame.
Singh [who had beaten a suspect who retaliated with petrol bombs]...steadfastly refused to accept the consequences of his actions until someone told Webb that the man behind the bombings had recently got a kicking from two black cops in a pub.
After weeks of speculation as to the identity of Chandler's secret lover, Webb caught him playing tonsil hockey with Spears. Accusing Chandler of fiddling while Conway burned, Webb wondered aloud what the yard would think of their Sun Hill sleaze buster basking in his own mire.
p.95
Back at the remains of the station, Webb fretted for news of Spears. Shortly before the blast she had told him she was finished with Chandler and had invited him to take the Super's place. Webb had been overjoyed; now he just felt empty inside. When the word came through that Spears had died before being able to dish the dirt on Chandler, Webb went AWOL, returning to heckle Chandler's press conference, where he merely succeeded in making a fool of himself. His other mistake was to tell McCallister about Chandler's affair, a revelation that made her eyes light up.
p.96
Cullen also tipped Chandler off that Meadows and Webb were plotting something. Ever since discovering Chandler's sordid secret with Spears, Webb had been intent on bringing him down and perhaps to his surprise, had found a willing ally in Meadows. Webb began digging into Chandler's past, tracking down colleagues from his days at Hendon, including Taviner; who recalled something strange happening with Chandler's girlfriend at the time and put Webb on to DCI Peter Marsden – Chandler's best friend at Hendon...Webb was more intrigued than ever.
p.99
Chandler was starting to feel the heat. He had heard that Meadows and Webb had been making inquiries about the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend from Hendon.
p.101
Webb's research into Chandler's ex-girlfriend had thrown up a name, Anne Merrick.
p.102
Disobeying Meadows' orders, Webb confronted Peter Marsden with the allegation [that Chandler had raped Louise Marsden]
...When Meadows and Webb caught up with him, James confessed to having seen Chandler rape Louise Marsden and eventually agreed to make a statement to that effect...Meadows was uneasy about taking McCallister down with chandler so he locked James' statement in his desk. However, Webb was not prepared to let it lie and, retrieving the statement, notified internal investigations.
p.113
When living in Hollywood for three months Chris Simmons, who plays DC Mickey Webb, was the only British actor to feature in the docu-soap Desperately Seeking Stardom.
p.114
Following up a lead on the case, Webb watched in horror as Okaro handed over his daughter to a suspect at a children's playground. Was Okaro involved in the paedophile ring? Before Webb could get his head around the idea, it emerged that the 'suspect' was an undercover cop and that by going it alone, Webb had screwed up a fresh operation to nail Gregory. Determined to make amends, Webb enlisted the help of Robbie Cryer to break into the home of Gregory's solicitor; where they found a child locked in the attic. Gregory's unexpected return left them staring down the barrel of a gun but luckily Hunter came good when he was really needed and the Sun Hill cavalry arrived in the nick of time.
P.115
Webb was investigating a series of date rapes but without much luck or sympathy – he reckoned the girls were asking for it – until one of the victims was Laura Meadows, attacked by a man she had invited into her home after meeting him on the internet. Webb's myopic view of rape victims was dealt a more permanent blow when he went in pursuit of a gang of thugs. He was overpowered, handcuffed with his own cuffs and then brutally raped. His life in turmoil, he finally broke down and told Meadows but chose to walk out of Sun Hill rather than face the Force Medical Examiner.
p.124
[Manson]...left Eva in no doubt that he wanted her out of Sun Hill and hastily arranged her transfer, only for Jack (with a little help from Mickey Webb) to land her a plum job at MIT.
p.143
[Robbie Cryer]...has been a welcome addition to the station's social scene while nursing a broken heart for the departing Mickey Webb.
p.164
DC Mickey Webb
(Chris Simmons) (2000-2003)
Short in statute but with lofty ambitions, Mickey Webb made no secret of his desire to become a DS. Essex born and bred, he transferred to Sun Hill from Porter's Avenue near Dagenham, hoping to carve out a reputation as a thief taker. He could be cocky and ruthless and was not afraid to go it alone in order to reach his goal, proving himself when inflitrating a gang of football hooligans. The likes of Kate Spears and Robbie Cryer had been known to fall for his rough charm but any woman would automatically have come second to Mickey's love for his own reflection. However, Mickey's jokey nature took a severe jolt when he was raped, as a result of which he decided to walk out on CID.
