World Cop Heroes
Bill star Chris Simmons, who plays DC Mickey Webb, and co-star Rhea Bailey, who plays PC Mel Ryder, presented the South Wales gong to Constable Elizabeth Window. The 30-year-old cop held on to a suicidal woman as she dangled from a bridge after catching her as she jumped. Chris, 35, said: "These guys are so humble. "I've heard repeatedly tonight 'Oh, it's just a job, we just did it and it was over in a second'. "In The Bill we go out on a night shoot and we have coppers looking after us because we have such a namby pamby job. "You come here tonight and realise from people like PC Window who's real and who is not. "I could never imagine putting myself into dangerous situations like that. "I've got masses of respect for them. "Without these people who knows where we'd be as a society."
